F. V. DeCoster, (A. Cav.) Washington, D. C. Greetings to my Comrades in Toledo. Only wish I could make them in person. These Comrade ties are very near my heart John Linfor, (A. Cav.) Ransom, Ill. I had hoped that I could meet with you at Toledo, but as there is no one going from here, for me to go with I will have to give it up. My eyes are too bad for me to go alone. Comrades, think of me kindly and accept my hearty greetings for you one and all. I do not forget you, and send dues and will look for "Historian" when it comes out. John E. Walker, (D. Inf.) Martinsville, Ind. I have delayed writing about reunion, only now to reply that I am not strong enough to make the journey. I should greatly enjoy looking into the faces of those dear old boys again. But I will think of them on the third of September, and wish them a happy time together, only regretting that I am not there to enjoy the reunion with them. My best wishes for each and every Comrade present. Oscar Hinkly, (D. Inf.) Kendallville, Ind. I have been making great calculations on getting to the Toledo reunion, but am sorry to say that owing to my physical condition I have to give it up. While I cannot be with you I shall not forget you. My thoughts will be with you while you are together. I wish any of the boys coming this way enroute home would stop off and visit me. I hope you will all have a nice time at Toledo. D. P. Hogle, (I. Inf.) Annada, Mo. I was pleased to get the reunion card, and hope many of the Comrades will be there. I fell and put my shoulder out of place in May, and have been laid up pretty much ever since. I received the badge, and it made me feel good to get it. I want to send my best respects to all my old Comrades, hoping they may have a good time together at Toledo. May God's blessing be with you all. George C. Conover, (Engr. Cleveland) Kansas City, Mo. Through correspondence with you and others whose addresses you gave me I have had quite a satisfactory resuming of old time friendships, and want to be a member of your society of survivors. I am sure the History will be very interesting to me. I may not get to the reunion this year but hope to do so at some later meeting. With best regards for all the old Marines, your Comrade. Phillip L. Frank, (B. Inf.) Chicago, Ill. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to be able to attend the reunion at Toledo, but from second week in August, every year, I am so great a sufferer from asthma that going anywhere is quite out of the question. Hope old Company B. will be well represented and send my best regards to all Marine Comrades there, with my sincere regrets at not being one of them. George Cotton, (B. Inf.) Wellington, Kans. With real sorrow I write to say it is impossible for me to get to the meeting this year. Have had bad luck this summerbeing in the great flood on the 3rd of July. It was too much for my wife and she took sick and died. I would love to be with the boys at Toledo, but they will know why I am not. I will send dues in a short time and will enjoy reading the account of the meeting. H. G. Parker, (B. Inf.) Lansing, Kans. I will be unable to get to the reunion this fall, much as I would like to do so. But one thing, I am not old or crippled up; feel about twenty-five and friskyno gray hairs, except whiskersthough the records seem to show me sixty-three. Am candidate for legislature and expect to get there. Give my best regards to all the boys, and tell Chris Koelling, I'll never forget his attempt to teach the bay stallion to swim the Mississippi, at the St. Louis wharf. Louis H. Santee, (B. Inf.) Wideman, Ark. It would give me infinite happiness to meet the pathetic remnant of the noble survivors of the Marine Brigade at the reunion, but I regret to tell you my finances will not permit the outlay. Yes, the last roll will soon sound for the last survivor of the gallant boys who patrolled the Father of Waters on the boats of the Marine Brigade. God bless themmay they all meet upon that brighter shore. Assure all the dear old boys present that I shall ever have a warm place for them in my heart. John J. Spilman, (B. Inf.) Pierce City, Mo. I send my best respects to the old boys at Toledo and hope you will all have a happy time. I cannon undertake to go, as I am only able with difficulty (and a crutch) to get around and ride in the neighborhoodowing to the old wounds I got in prior service. I am now 81 years of age. Wife died in 1095 and I only go about among my children and neighbors, though I am in fairly good general health. The only chance for me to attend a reunion willbe for you to hold one up here in the Ozarks. William Jordan, (B. Inf.) Topin's Grove, W. Va. As the time of our reunion draws near, I fear the castles I've been building all summer will tumble down, for though I am all fixed to go the doctor says it will not do for me to run the risk of the trip and excitement. I have my Toledo Badge all right and my disappointment is too great to describe. God bless every one of those dear old boys, in soul and body. I do so long to see and shake hands with them. There won't be many more reunions this side of the great gathering eternal. Greetings to all. George W. Kemble, (D. Inf.) Nat. Mil. Home, Ind. If nothing happens to prevent I will be in Toledo, and meet my old Comrades once more. I shall want one of those Histories, and will have the money for it. I don't find any Marine boys here at the Home now. Shall be pleased to meet you all in Toledo. [Nothing seen or heard Comrade Kemble at Toledo. Please report.] John Vanderly, (B. Inf.) Humeston, Ia. In reply to cards and letters about the reunion, I have to say I am not able financially to make the trip to Toledo, though I would like to do so, I assure you. Am 65, and in good health, but circumstances compel me to remain at home this year. Hope you will all have a good time. Give those present my best regards. S. T. Adams, (D. Cav.) San Luis Obispo, Cal. To the Comrades assembled at Toledo, say for me (and for Comrade Wm. H. Spitler, who is here now) most fervently: God bless you each and all. We should only be too glad to be with you there, but as that cannot be, we join in saying that should any of you come to this coast, you'll find a greeting if you'll call on us here. John B. Burr, (C. Cav.) Davenport, Ia. I am truly sorry I can't be with you at Toledo, but as my vacation comes in July, it is impossible to get away again (from Government work) to attend the reunion in September. How I would enjoy meeting my old Comrades of the M. M. B. I shall think of you all on the day of the meeting. I can only hope to be with you at some future reunion. Find my dues inclosed. John R. Crandall, (Maj. Cav.) Canandaigua, N.Y. I would be most happy to meet all the Comrades at Toledo this fall, but my sight is no better than when with you at St. Louis, and my health not good, and the uncertainty about accommodations, make it seem best to remain at home. Give our Comrades my high regards and best wishes. I hope you will have a rattling good time. Rev. H. N. Couden, (D Cav.) We are thinking strongly of attending the reunion at Toledo, but it is as yet unsettled. If not there in person we certainly shall be in spirit, and if it is only the latter, convey our love and best wishes to all the Comrades present. Inclosed dues of the year and accept our most cordial greetings. James S. Dungey, (Stew. Fairchild) New Orleans, La. I am sorry I will not be able to meet the surviving Comrades at Toledo this year. I have not been in good health for some time, and find it best not to attempt the trip, but I hope there will be many present, and that they will have a good time. My good time will be in reading all about it in the "Historian." So I send dues inclosed and will look for it in due time. William Luby, (2nd Mate Lioness) Minneapolis, Minn. I would like to go to the reunion, but it is too far away for me. How I would enjoy meeting the old boys and the hearty hand shake that only the old veteran knows how to give. And what a pleasure to look into their kindly faces, and listen to their stories of their experiences on Southern waters on the ram fleet and Marine boats. I will remember you on that day, and send dues so as to have my badge to wear. D. B. Mason, (A. Cav.) Riverside, Cal. I send herewith my dues, and my best wishes for all the survivors of the Marine Brigade, and wish them a happy meeting and a good time. Wife and I expect to spend a few weeks in August upon the mountains among the pines. Wish some of our Comrades could enjoy same too. Fraternal regards to one and all. Noah Perry, (Sharpshooter R. F.) Santa Ana, Cal. I am too far away to think of attending reunion, as my health is such as to require an attendant all the time. But I do not forget my old Comrades of the fleet, and send them my best regards. M. E. Phelps, (A. Cav.) St. Edwards, Neb. I would love to greet my M. M. B. Comrades again, especially Co. A. Cav, at the reunion in Toledo, but find it impossible this year. I saw my brother Ira Phelps, in Ashtabula, O., last fall, and he wished to be remembered to you all, and especially to Comrade Couden by whose side he stood when he received the shot that made him blind. I dend dues. God Bless you all! J. N. Prouty, (I. Inf.) Humboldt, Ia. I write this at Seattle and am about starting on a trip to Alaska, so shall be far away when the Comrades are meeting at Toledo. I have greatly enjoyed several previous reunions, and hope to be with the Comrades at some later meeting. We can have but few more. My greetings and best wishes to all, and I shall hope to bet back safely and meet with you next year. James Sickal, (K. Inf.) St. Louis, Mo. My hat is off to my Comrades of the Marine Brigade. I only wish it was so I could clasp all your hands once more. I hope there may be a good turn out, and all have a good time. I send my dues, and shall expect to read the "Historian" with much pleasure when it comes. Eli Wise, (D. Inf.) Zion City, Ill. I fear I must forego the pleasure of meeting the boys at Toledo this year, though I would like very much to see my old Comrades again. God bless them and give them a happy and joyous time at the reunion. I live in hopes that I may yet see some of them. George B. Wilson, (D. Inf.) Saranac, Mich. Please give my old M. M. B. Comrades at Toledo my best regards, and also my regrets at not being able (through continued ill health of my wife) to meet with them. May they yet enjoy many of these reunions. I should like to shake hands all around, and listen to their stories of camp fire and scout. But being denied that would enjoy receiving and answering letters from my old Comrades. Daniel Landes, (F. Inf.) Ridgeway, Mo. Sorry I cannot be with the dear old Comrades at Toledo. Am now 75, and in quite poor health. I would love to meet and greet those old Comrades, and talk over the trying times we went through together. Hope you may all enjoy a good meeting. Please send "Historian." Can't send you dues this year. Theo. M. Dunbar, (A. Cav.) Perry, Ia. Inclosed I send dues, and am very sorry to say I cannot be at Toledo. I wanted very much to meet the old boys there this year, but can only hope that I may have this privilege later. With love to all, and hoping for many reunions for the dear old Comrades in the years to come, I close. James A. Beach, (Lieut. and A. Q. M.) Chicago, Ill. Enclosed find my dues for 1908. Will hardly get to Toledo this year, having had my vacation and now back to work. Am in good health, and 10 lbs. heavier than last year, though in my 70th year. I want to be remembered to all the boys. James J. Darnall, (Lt. Art.) Sawyer, Kans. In reply to the reunion card, I have to say it will be impossible this year. I am under a lung specialist, and that is expensive. I do not forget the old Comrades. God bless every one of them is my prayer. May we all so live that we may meet at the great reunion around God's throne. Good bye, and God bless you all. William O. Allbright, (A. Inf.) Ludington, Mich. I am sorry to say that as usual circumstances will prevent me from meeting my old Comrades at the approaching reunion. I hope they may have a pleasant meeting, and send my greetings and best wishes for one and all present.
